Vonage Complaint - Vonage Needs To Be Stopped!!!!!!
MIDLAND, MICHIGAN -- I signed up for Vonage phone service in July 2007. HUGE MISTAKE! I signed up for two accounts: my personal home phone and my business phone. Neither my home phone nor my business phone ever worked right...the phone would cut out or there would be so much static on the line that the person on the other end of the line could not hear you. I contacted Vonage to resolve the issues several times, but nothing worked. We continued to forward all of our business phone calls from our Vonage phone number to our cell phone number and were paying Vonage and the cell phone company both. I tried to have the Vonage phone number transferred to another phone company, but no phone company in the area could port this phone number, since it was not portable to a land line. Since this was our business phone number and we were a brand new business, we did not want to have to change phone numbers.
Finally, we found out that Verizon could port the phone number to our existing cell phone; however, as we found out later, the phone number on our Verizon cell phone was long distance for anyone to call us in our business area code. So now we have a business phone number that is long distance for any of our customers to call us, so we had to add a new land line through ATT. After having the phone number switched to our Verizon cell phone, I called and canceled Vonage. Without notice, they automatically deducted $92 from our business checking account. I called them to find out what the charge was for, and they said it was the cancellation fee. What cancellation fee? I was never informed of a cancellation fee and the phone never worked in the first place! I tried to get the money back from Vonage and they would not refund my money, even though our phone NEVER worked. Also, they said that I had a two year agreement. I never signed up for a two year agreement with them. After going through this NIGHTMARE with the business phone, I also canceled my home phone. They informed me that they were going to charge me over $130 for canceling.
I told them I would not pay them another cent, since their service is horrible and they steal money from people right out of their bank accounts without permission. They have turned my case over to a credit collector and now I am being harassed by them. I want this harassment to stop. I have submitted this complaint to the FCC and the BBB. I hope they step up to the plate for us!
Update 7/23/08: After reporting Vonage to the BBB, they finally refunded the money they took from my bank account in Jan. 2008. Check out this link for more info on Vonage at the BBB: http://newjersey.bbb.org/WWWRoot/Report.aspx?site=89&bbb=0221&firm=11005249
