ZLB Plasma Services Informative - Unclean And Unfair Practices And Discrimination

Review by dav01dav on 2008-07-19
LAWRENCE, KANSAS -- ZLB Plasma Services, Lawrence, KS., engages in discriminatory practices. Also; in 34 visits, I never saw the employees ever clean the machines. They would take the centrifuge out of the pump and the tubes off of the machine. (I'm not an expert but I'm sure that the FDA has some kind of requirements for disease prevention). I also have a complaint about their truth in medicine practices. There was a Wednesday that I had waited for one hour in the lobby for someone to attend to me, when this finally happened, it was informed to me that my hemocrit, my red blood cell count was too low,) now keep in mind that I have donated plasma twice a day for several months with no problems with my red blood cell count).

It was a half hour before their staff meeting and a couple of weeks later it was revealed to me by an employee who will rename nameless that I was right to question this, because it was "a legitimate concern."

Blood donation centers have waiting periods (usually several days) before you can donate again and your donating twice a day every day? Sounds like your every vampires fantasy date.

you thought they were dirty, yet went there 34 times...doesn't that seem a little risky?

I could be wrong, but don't people get paid to donate blood? It could be that they were getting suspicious of you, donating twice a day for several months probably raised red flags.

justcuz, they do...my brother had a friend who was "punk rock" and that guy would go donate blood for money...i wonder if they still pay for other donations....i could use the cash.

thanks chris, I wasn't sure but I bet someone got suspicious and put a stop to the OP coming in every day. I also thought there was a limit to how many times a person could donate each month for their own personal health.

(what other donations you talking about?? LOL)

seriously, justcuz...it's just for the cash.

Okay, first of all, The machines are ALWAYS operated by FDA regulations. The blood is entered into a "bowl" that spins the blood and extracts the plasma from the blood. No blood EVER touches the centerfuge. And you are correct. You are't an expert, so don't assume to know what you're talking about.
Second, The word is "hematocrit."
Third, A donor is only allowed to donate twice in a seven day period. I don't know how you came up wth "twice a day."
That is completely wrong.
Fourth, during the screening process a sample of your blood is taken to make sure the protien and iron levels in your plasma are acceptable to donate. Why would we care about your red blood cells if we only harvest plasma? Think about it. Both levels of iron and protien have to be in a certain range in order to make the life saving medicine from the plasma.
Fifth Everyone's level of protien and iron change from day to day depending on what foods you eat and how much water you consume.
So, Sir, before you start your accusations, please be aware of all the facts and please remember, no one forced you through those doors. You do have a choice whether or not you donate. If you don't like it don't go back.
