Wal-Mart Tires Buyers Beware Complaint - Never Buy Tires From Walmart - You Get What You Pay For - GoodYear VIVA 2 Tires

GoodYear VIVA 2 Tires - Complaint
Review by buyersbeware2008 on 2008-07-21
SILER CITY, NORTH CAROLINA -- My in-laws has bought three Goodyear Viva 2 tires from Walmart in November 2007.

Since then we had to go back not once, twice, but three times since then, two of those times were back to back Friday's (June 20,2008 & June 27,2008).

And now this past Friday July 18, 2008. All three times the Viva 2 tire had a crack in the middle of the tire.

What's the deal ???? I know they say thing's come in three's, but come on three brand new tires that end up with a crack in the middle (within one month).

And on top of it all, every time you go there to have the tire replaced you have to spend $9.95 Road Hazard plus $1.50 fee which totals out to $11.24 after taxes.

This past Sunday when I went with my wife & in-laws a mechanic worker told me "maybe it's your driving" then said " maybe your van needs an alignment", at that point I told the worker "no, you need to go to automotive school because if it was to be the alignment my tires would show wear & tear on the side, this is in the middle of my tire & by the way Wal-Mart needs to also send you to school to learn customer respect!!!!

At that point I just called for a manager. Then the manager told me if I don't pay the $9.95 Road hazard plus $1.50 Fee which totals out to $11.24 After taxes my tire will not be covered.

I told her "if there happens to be another flat... I don't plan on coming back to Walmart auto center... plus this shouldn't be happening with a brand new tire."

So before you decide to buy any tires at Wal-mart... I would think twice, take my advice it's not worth the aggravation.

Wally World didn't manufacture the tires, Goodyear did. If you still have any of the paperwork from Wally World I suggest you contact Goodyear. They might be very interested to hear that you had 3 failures in a short time span.

Just a general FYI: Wal-Mart does sell some high-quality tires at good prices. You can order them from Wal-Mart.com and have them shipped to the nearest store for installation. As for the Viva 2's they're probably bargain tires, but shouldn't be splitting if the tires aren't overinflated or abused. You might be able to report this to the feds on one of the Govt. web sites
(NTSB? NHTSA?).

Walmart doesn't manufacturer anything they sell. They should stand by their products they sell. If they are back 3 times for the same problem it should be walmart contacting Goodyear to see if there are any other complaints. It is walmarts responsibilty to make sure the products they sell are safe, they are not with this product.

yoke, I can't quite agree with your statement. Wal*Mart is not the manufacturer. I believe that's who should be responsible for an inferior product. I'd compare it to buying an airline tickets from a third party and the flight is canceled. The airline would be responsible, not the third party. Although if working with a travel agent, they probably would do the leg work for you.

walmart is aware there is a problem with the product. It is up to them to call and find out if there is a recall or any other problem. walmart is not taking responsibility for the problem, they are blaming the customer.

One more reason to stay away from Wal-Mart. If I bought tires at a tire shop and had this same problem, you can bet they would do something about it. If Wal-Mart valued its customers they would first make sure their employee knows what he/she is doing and this isn't employee error, and second they would contact Goodyear themselves.

In this case it is a Goodyear problem and Walmart does sell name brand quality tires. The real problem with Walmart is that the guys in the auto center have no business working on vehicles. I think the only reason they are out there is because all the frozen foods have already been stocked. You'll always get what you pay for and Walmart is the cheapest.

Wow! I bought tires from WalMart and they are still good 4 years later. When I bought them they had a lifetime warranty on them, not to mention from balance and rotation service for the lifetime of the tires. I did have to go in twice because I picked up something on the road and it put a hole in my tire. I wasn't charged anything, they put a new tire on and I went on about my merry way. Also, my husband did the same thing for his car and had the same luck. They were the middle of the line tires.

Tires with a lifetime warranty?
Posted by CrazyRedHead on 2008-07-23:
Yeah, the tires now cost more than the van does, LOL.
Posted by DigitalCommando on 2008-07-23:
The warranty is for the life of the tread and once worn down the warranty dies. Kinda like having a warranty on a popsicle huh?

I have problem with Viva 2 tires also -- neither Walmart nor Goodyear stand behind this product as I have contacted them. I also sent a complant to National Highway Safety Administration....BUYER BEWARE!!!
Posted by polly46 on 2008-07-28:
Even Wal-mart said "they don't know why Wal-mart is still selling VIVA 2 tires" -- that should tell you something about Wal-mart and some of their products!!!

Read my comment on VIVA tires They are defective! They suck.
Posted by sickofbs on 2009-04-07:
Viva 2 tires are not defective; I own a set of 4 and have had very good luck with them - they give a quiet ride with great handling in rain, snow, etc. I am also an Support Manager at a Tire and Lube Express who has worked in the department for over 2 years and the only problems I've ever seen with these tires are wear on the outer edges of tread due to an alignment issue or overall uneven wear due to a problem with the struts. Get your information correct before you proceed to put it all over the internet.

Hello sickofbs: ALL MY INFORMATION IS 110% CORRECT.....And The Truth Is "THEY SUCK"!!!!!!

Sounds like it might be your vehicle. Walmart DOES actively pull items if we are notified they are on recall. IF we try to sell a recall item the register won't let us. It will print a recall slip and tell us to take the item from the shelves and notify the manager immediately.

I don't know what happened to VIVA 2 between 2009 to 2012 , I went to Walmart in Bellingham WA and they sold me these tires, never offered me road hazards warranty, I am just praying that these tires don't bring me bad luck, that's all , for walmart I don't know if they have been alarmed with all these complaints, . . seems not, as after 3 years they still had them on their shelves, ( unless Goodyear did something ) anyone heard anything?

I will never do business with my Mustang or Dodge Ram there. Thanks for the advice. i spend a lot of money on my vehicles.

Sure sounds like a Goodyear problem. I have a Porche, BMW and Scion... expensive and hard to find tires. I get them all from WalMart... best price best selection... and within the limits of the warranty WalMart always takes care of issues. I'm surprised at the VIVA warranty problem. I wish WalMart sold airplane tires.
