Home Depot Complaint - Frustrated And Feeling Ripped Off
MCKNIGHT ROAD _ PGH, PENNSYLVANIA -- 1- I measure my room. 14X12 but have to pay for a room and a half+ worth of carpet. I still don't understand other than to say it's in case someone doesn't do a good job in cutting the carpet. So we have to pay for extra carpet just in case someone flubs it up.!
2- I cannot Pay for my carpet install measure (they have to come out and measure for $35 before you can order carpet) using my gift card because it was purchased the same day. [Used my MC instead]
- was told I'd have to come back next day to have charge taken off of my credit card and use my gift card.
3- return next day, can't use my gift card because if I did they would have to cancel my scheduled measurement time. Would have to wait till that date came and went. [the excuse? SORRY THAT WAS A NEW PERSON WHO DIDN'T KNOW]
4- Call to be sure everything in order with my carpet order so I could go into store and pay for it. Seems they have an 'expediter' who handles all installs and I had to wait for her to call me the next day. It was there and was correct
5- Go to pay and no one can find my order since it had been over 2 weeks since I called to check on it. There I am at the store at 5:30 after work to pay for my carpet and am told I cannot. They can see it in the computer but it isn't 'active' or something. Asked for a manager 3 times and had 2 employees at customer service tell me the manager could not do anything either (and that was my reply each time I asked for a manager). I left very angry as this was now my second wasted trip to this store.
Called another HD store. They could not help me since my 'measure' was OWNED by a different store. I was STUCK. But they'd have someone call me from the original store.
6- waited all day for a call. Called back to original store. Expediter had left for the day. Was told the expediter was only there between the hours of 7 and 4:30 M-F ONLY [I did not realize at the time what a handicap this was].
7- called store the next day. "Oh yes, I was just going to call you". The excuse given for NOT being able to PAY FOR SOMETHING I WANTED TO PURCHASE? "NEW EMPLOYEE"! and if I had only "asked for a manager!!".. grrrr
8-paid for carpet (had to make a special 'appointment' to have things ready for me in order to pay when the 'Expediter' was not in...I mean down to the day and time I was coming in).
9-Want to have old carpet removed AND HAULED away. They use the measured amount to calculate this fee. Remember I have to pay for a room and a half+ of carpet in case someone flubs up cutting the carpet. I now have to pay this fee twice because it is one charge for tear up and same amount to haul away.!! RIP OFF!!
In conclusion.. It would appear HOME DEPOT cannot KEEP employees if everyone is NEW all the time. OR they use the "NEW EMPLOYEE" excuse in their 'Customer Training' manual.
It would appear Employee TRAINING is dismal at best. I'll add CUSTOMER SERVICE training totally stinks at this company. These two 'customer service employees' were visibly getting angry they had to repeat themselves when I asked for a manager 3 times. Where WAS the manager anyhow? I was up there for over 30 minutes squabbling with his 'employees'!
I will not be purchasing anything else from Home Depot EVER!. Thank heavens they just opened a LOWES down the road from here. THANK GOD! since you can't find a small local hardware store anymore. AND they are REALLY NICE to deal with there. I ordered special blinds for windows. What a breath of fresh air to be handled like I mattered and my time was valuable. I also hear they have a great 'installation' department as well as the people who install. ~NICE Lowes is great!
OH! almost forgot the CRITICAL part. IF you work from 9-5 and cannot be AT the HOME DEPOT between 7 and 4:30 M-F? Forget about INSTALLATIONS where you have to visit the store for anything. They have an 'EXPEDITER' who is the ONLY person able to handle these (this store had only ONE person responsible for this._ [You mean to tell me a STORE Manager cannot take my money for carpet? wow!]. For ME who cannot be at the store at these times, cost me a great deal of time and gas, and major frustration... if they had only TOLD ME this fact at the very beginning. I had to find this out on my own! What a Pain!
After taking time out to write this, I am even more angry. I'll have to start spreading the work around town here.
