Texas Garage Door Specialists Complaint - Do Not Trust Texas Garage Door Specialists For Your Repair

Review by WEL on 2008-07-28
SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS -- Texas Garage Door Specialists are classic "bait & Switch" in that they offer their repair services at an agreed upon flat-rate price and then try to gouge you after the work is performed claiming no knowledge of their own prior agreed price. Price is considerably increased with the risk of a mechanic's lien if you don't pay it. Furthermore, when researching this "company" they have no physical address to avoid process service or lawsuits.

Seems to be a real "fly-by-night" outfit ready to shut down at a moments notice and restart under a new name.
Company Response on 10/16/2008:
We'd like to take some time and respond to this complaint. We are very concerned about our reputation and we are very sorry that we have an unsatisfied customer. First I'd like to say that we are a very reputable company in San Antonio with connections to many Real Estate companies that we do work for on a monthly basis. We are a member of the San Antonio Apartment Association, which requires us to have large amounts of insurance just to step on their properties. We are involved in our community and are sponsors of the new high school, Lady Bird Johnson, located in the NEISD.
The complaint speaks of a bait and switch and price gouging. Let me assure you, we have never performed a bait and switch nor have we ever price gouged any of our customers. The person writing this complaint might not understand how mechanics liens work. We actually have to have a signed contract by the homeowner to put a lien on ones home. We don't have contracts. We give you the total price before any work has been completed. We are obviously not a "fly by night" company and we do stand behind all rules and regulations stated by the IDA (International Door Association). By looking in the phone book you will see many garage door repair companies. You will also notice that only a hand full have a physical address. These large companies have a physical address, a store front and large overhead. Like the majority of companies in the garage door industry, we try to keep our overhead low by not having a store front. This means lower prices for you, the homeowner.
We pride ourselves in having happy customers and hope you will give us a call when you need us.

Did you not receive a written estimate before the work was started? Did they ask you to sign a work order? If so, what did it say?

They can threaten with a lien against the house, but without something to back it up a judge would quickly vacate it.
