Enterprise Car Rental Complaint - Driving Around on a Dangerous Tire
We obtained a car from Enterprise in a nearby town, one we had used in the past. I thought making a reservation well in advance would be helpful but there were basically no cars available that I liked. I overheard another customer being told they just come in and go out, we never know what will be here. We settled for a dirty looking 08 Malibu and the agent was quick to measure the scratch on one side, to show us it was less than 1". Great. They obviously don't check any standard features. I thought the front tire looked funny but we left the next day on an 11 day road trip. The tire began losing air after about 300 miles. We noticed the bent rim. All on the same side as the scratch. My husband had to put air in the tire in a driving thunderstorm. Lights were going off on the dashboard, no book in the glove compartment to explain the various lights and knobs. In calling the national number, we were told to go get it fixed, pay for it ourselves and then request reimbursement. They would offer no other help. My husband demanded and finally rec'd a supervisor, and he got one from back home in our area. He helped us locate some tire places but we were only there for one night and it was Sunday. My husband hit several tire places the next day; all said the tire could not be fixed, and it was in danger of a blowout. Making a long story short, we finally managed to switch cars. Got a gas guzzling Jeep, the only car they didn't care about receiving back. Upon returning the car, we were told "sorry for the inconvenience." We were given a few token compensations. My gripe is the fact that we were given a dangerous car, they only cared about the scratch, no measures are taken to ensure customer safety and the national service number offers no service at all.
