Odyssey Optical Complaint - Eye Wear

Review by KatNope on 2008-08-04
ASTORIA, NEW YORK -- AWFUL! DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE! INCOMPETENT!

When I lost my glasses and needed a quick replacement, I went to Odyssey because it's close to home. The exam left me a bit concerned, as it was far less thorough than any other eye exam I'd had in the past. When I returned the next day, I experienced the "fun house" effect - a lot of distortion and difficulty focusing. I knew something was wrong, but was told to wear them all night and the next day to get used to them, to no avail. (The next day, another lady told me I should not have worn them all day, completely contradicting what the other had said.)

The lady who examined me agreed to fix the lenses, but I was still unable to see clearly. When I asked for a refund I was told no, (TOTAL LIE -- it is possible). Instead of trying to figure out what the problem might be, they were more intent on blaming me for "not liking" the glasses.

Finally, I made an appointment with my regular doctor upstate, who found the problem immediately. Neither of the lenses were centered, and the astigmastism on the left lens was off. Upon returning to Odyssey with this news, I was taken seriously and given my refund.

By the way, there are two sizes of lenses to grind down for prescriptions, smaller and larger. Certain prescriptions require beginning with the larger lens to come out correctly. When I inquired as to what size lenses had been used in my glasses, they didn't know what I was talking about. I seriously question the professionalism at Odyssey and the quality of their equipment. Why couldn't they detect what my doctor had in only a matter of minutes?!? THEY ARE INCOMPETENT!!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!

I just had a similar experience with Pearle Vision.. the first doctor was in such a rush he screwed up the order and the lab they farm the work out to, failed to build in the prism which left me with double vision.. the second doctor retested and they are now making TWO sets, one of which I hope works.. Im not gonna give up until they get it right!

Very helpful post. Having the other doc neutralize the Odessy specs was a good idea and gave your complaint legs. Chain optical joints vary like chain burger joints...some good, some bad, some just plain ugly.

I just got the first prescription to try and they were atrocious.. worse yet, Pearle vision held up the remake of the second pair assuming that I would "get used to" the first erronious prescription..
