Charles Barker Lexus Complaint - Avoid Them For Repair Service

Review by scjothi on 2008-08-06
VIRGINIA BEACH,VA, VIRGINIA -- My RX300 actually had a starting trouble and so I towed it to them. That was my first visit. They called back and told me that the Idle Control Valve needs to be replaced. Along with that they gave me a list of other things to be done for driving the car 'Safely'. One of those is: Replacement of Water pump and Timing belt with an estimation of $1055. I could not afford it so I didn't do it. But they wrote in my service record that its 'UNSAFE' to drive without the water pump replaced.

Obviously my car had 98,000 miles on it. SO 'they wanted' to do this routine work. But the fact is, I had replaced the whole engine block(under warranty) with all it parts including timing belt and water pump just months before.

Unfortunately they haven't looked into my car history before telling me those are a "MUST" to drive the car safely. They also confirmed the problem saying that they have done the proper tests confirming it.

Fortunately I had previous service record of the things I have done and I showed that to one of their managers. Finally the service manager told me that she will look into the problem once again, only to tell me that it was just a 'loose bracket' not the whole pump and tightened the bracket to fix it. Avoid them as much as possible.

Standard response from some repair shops - OH MY GOD, YOU'RE NOT GOING TO DRIVE THAT OUT OF HERE WITHOUT ME FIXING IT ARE YOU? Fortunately, I have a mechanic who leans the other way, "Sure you can drive it, you'll know when it goes bad, bring it in then."
