Sears Complaint - Self Propelled Lawn Mower
THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS -- On 07/19/08 I purchased my third lawn mower from sears and I want to complain about the new speed adjustment (there isn’t any) and the handle for self-propelled operation. I was not pleased to find I couldn’t adjust the speed of a mower as its pre set at the factory. The only reason I see to do this is to burn more gasoline and wear out the engine quicker. I took the first one I bought back the same day, paid a 15% restocking fee and bought a mower with a Honda engine. The sales person (Mike) assured me this engine was much quieter and said that in a test this mower was quieter than their electric mowers which I find difficult to believe.
This engine has no primer either and is difficult to start (you have to pull cord seven times to start ). Another problem is the speed control you cannot just push to engage you must hold the handle and try to keep at an even speed which is difficult when you have arthritis in your hands, I don’t’ believe they considered how many older people mow their own yards.
I called the store and talked to the department manager and she said she would forward this compliant to the buyer in Chicago. I just want them to know I am unhappy and will buy my next mower elsewhere.
