DMV, California Complaint - DMV Sick In

Review by Lanie on 2008-08-11
CALIFORNIA -- I just went to keep an appointment with the DMV to renew my license. Someone stood at the door to tell me everyone had called in sick and they had no idea when the office would reopen.

This is vindictive anti-public service behavior by employees who accept their fairly large payroll for mostly sub-standard service and rude behavior. They are doing this to punish the public and use us as a bludgeon to keep their fat paychecks because the Gov is trying to balance the budget with everyone having to participate. I'd like to suggest they be penalized as they are penalizing the public.

They are above the law. I guess we'd better to get used to it.

If nobody could work, nobody could work. All of the nasty germ infested people that cross their doors everyday could possibly have created an employee wide epidemic of the flu or something.

'their fairly large payroll' -- how do you know how much they get paid?

It sounds like whoever was at the door could have done a better job being empathetic, but you really can't just assume it's a conspiracy because everyone was sick and that they are "above the law".

While I doubt it was on purpose with any hidden agenda, it is amazing that a Government office is unable to open for such a reason, yet private business owners can always find a work around.

It's very likely that the employees did make an agreement to call in sick on the same day. Sometimes you have to take drastic moves to get the proper attention. It's too bad that you were inconvenienced, but it's entirely possible that they had just cause. I would be frustrated too, but I wouldn't make rash judgements.

What do you expect when the state votes in a "movie star" as their Governor?

I hope all the people who recalled Gray Davis don't mind the DMV employees feeling a little under the weather.

P.S. If you didn't vote then don't complain!

In Florida you can renew your drivers license online without having to go to the DMV. I don't know if you can do that in CA but believe me it saves alot of time. And MyDogsMom, that same state elected another movie star, Ronald Reagan, as govenor and he later became one of this countries most popular presidents.

I'm surprised a state so supposedly 'technologically advanced' doesn't have online or mail-in license renewals. Of course, all their online capabilities may be tied up with issuing IDs to illegal immigrants. Can't make America's future stand in line. I think it's no 'coincidence' that they all called in sick.

bill, you're right about the RR comment, but he wasn't related to Ted Kennedy.

Ponie: Good point about Ted Kennedy. LOL

To put Ronald Reagan in the same thought as Arnold is beyond my comprehension.
