Citizens Bank Complaint - Making Customer Pay For Their Employee's Mistake
03755 -- I had one checking and one savings account with Citizens bank. In total I had about $10,000 in my accounts. I wanted to write a ~$6,000 check and I called the bank up to ask if I could write a check with the balance that I had in each of these accounts. The customer service rep had no answer and asked me to go to a local branch. I went to the local bank and the banker said she changed my account such that I would be able to write a $6,000 check without me having to pay any overdraft fee. I was not going to be able to check my mails in the month and a half. By the time I could check my statements, they had deduced the amount form my savings account (which is totally fine) and charged me an overdraft fee. I went to the bank again and I spoke to the manager (who did not know much about the bank - he had to either look up everything following MY guidance or call someone in the central location for help).
The manager said, he can not do anything since I did not come within a month form the time I received my first statement and they closed my checking account (without sending me information about account closure)! So the bottom line is that I had to make two visits to the bank (which costs substantial amount of time), I had the required amount of money in the bank and yet I had paid the overdraft fee because of their employee's fault and they can not do anything about it.
