Home Depot Informative - Home Depot Is A Horrible Employer
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS -- My son, who is 19, was fired from his first job, Home Depot, where he was a lot loader. He was hired second week in June and terminated second week in August. He was called in to the office in the middle of his shift and was told by the lead cashier that he did not meet the expectations of a Home Depot lot loader. To give you a little history, when my son was hired there were 4 lot loaders, one left for the military, the other to school, leaving two to man the lot all week all day. He attended the two day orientation and then put on the job, no formal training as what is expected of him from the store as a lot loader. This was his first job fresh out of high school.
For the two months that he worked for Home Depot, working 36+ hours a week, did not miss a day of work, nor was he ever late. We live in lower south Texas, so it is not unheard of to have a 105+ degree index on any given day. As a lot loader, the employee is called to help out in any department at any time, and he did just that. He was counseled one time, by this "lead" cashier that he forgot a basket on the side of the building, which he subsequently never did again. It was apparent that this "lead" cashier was nit-picking and finding fault, sighting that my son left the lot unattended several times, how is that not possible if you are asked to go to garden to help a customer?
It is inevitable that you are going to leave the lot unattended at times. I am completely aware that I live in an at will state and at any point in time you can be fired, however, if you do not train properly, do not have sufficient coverage to assist the other employees, how can you expect employees to stay later than their 8 hour shift, in which they worked in the 100+ degree weather. This person obviously has a real issue with being in control and the store is just as much at fault for allowing her to have that much power.
HOME DEPOT IS A HORRIBLE EMPLOYER AND TREAT THEIR EMPLOYEES WITH LITTLE TO NO RESPECT!
