Walgreen Drugstore Complaint - Bait and Switch - Drugstore

Review by Scadoo1 on 2008-08-14
CALIFORNIA -- I have been reading the ads in my newspaper for a toaster oven, advertised at Walgreens Drugstore, for $9.99, less rebate. I went to a store near me and they did not have it. The manager called another store nearby, and he said they had it. I went there, and they did not have it. I believe they advertise an item, then do not have it in the store when a person comes to get it.
I am getting a run around from the different stores, and I call it a bait and switch act, just to get me into the store.

I have never had a problem with Walgreen ads. If they don't have the item, I get a raincheck.

Bait and switch is when a store advertises a product at a low price, tells you that item is not available but then tries to sell you a substitute product that costs more. What you experienced is a store running out of stock of a popular advertised item.

On many sale items they have a very limited supply to sell. So you have to get there early to get the specials. I think your post gives the problem very clearly and quickly.

Common problem in many stores. The stores don't always know what will be on sale far enough in advance to make sure they have stock. Rainchecks are a good compromise.

If you ask for the store manager (not asst mgr) and ask nicely, he/she can order it for you through walgreens.com or you can order it and ask him/her (politely) to refund the shipping charges...
