Peak Van Lines Complaint - Peak Van Lines Is A Scam

Review by PeakScamLines on 2008-08-19
NILES, ILLINOIS -- Peak Van Lines is a an awful moving company which low-balls in-home BINDING estimates by as much as 50% to get your business and when they load up your items, they tell you that you did not show them those things and they jack up the price by 30-50%. When it comes time to ship your items and you want to know when it will arrive, they do not answer phone calls, they are evasive and they may tell you one date to then change it within 24hrs of that supposed move date.

Please do not use this company, if your experience was like mine or someone else whom I talked with, your moving experience will not be a good one.

They have switched the name of their company because they were probably receiving too many complaints and wanted to start anew. Their previous name was Target Moving and Storage.

What they did was illegal. With a binding estimate they can only up the charges before loading your stuff. Once your things are loaded they cannot claim additional items. You might win a judgment in court but you'd have a tough time collecting.

binding as in strapping? or binding as in legally binding?

an estimate is just that, an estimate.

i just do not think the whole story is being told here.

An estimate that is off by 30-50% though, thats a little crazy. Given that the same exact story was told to another person who used their company makes me think its not just a mistake. They low-ball estimates to get business then up the price once things are loaded up.

This company is a total nightmare. I spent one month without being able to spleep because of them.
They trick you, fool you... they don't answer your phone (Lian only... they say they have representatives, but it a one person deal) and they do not reply to emails once they have your shipment. They promise deliver in 7 days and mine took a month.
They lie all the time about when your shipment is coming.
Worst I had all my furniture broken...and my boxes were all wet in the bottom because it was probably seating in water on the truck.
They demand payment in cash and they give you a 6 cent insurance that you cannot change. I tried to change it when they went to pick up my furniture and they threated me to sign papers or they would leave my furniture outside my building.

Another friend went through the same, plus he has items missing!!!
