Transworld Systems Complaint - Collection Agency Chicken To Talk To Customers! - Collection Agency

Complaint
Review by ohSteph on 2008-08-19
LOS ALTOS, CALIFORNIA -- We received a letter from Transworld Systems, a collection agency, telling us we owed $200.00 to Tivo. I was very upset knowing how much my husband protects what he considers to be "our pristine" credit record (sorry, he used to be in banking). All I know is our TV account is always up to date (it's an auto payment) so I assumed it must be some type of other unknown fee. I was going to call Tivo but remembered their long wait times so I decided to call Transworld instead. It was then that I realized they "conveniently" left their phone numberoff the letter! In addition, there was no email address, nor was the letter signed by anyone! It was clearly a one way communication, all on their side. The letter said to call Tivo, send the money or write them a letter showing you already sent payment. Unbelievable! I don't have time to sit down and write a letter about money I don't owe them or Tivo.

I decided to call Tivo at the only number the letter on the letter and it turned out to be Tivo technical support! They had to transfer me to customer service and I waited some more. Finally reach a c/s rep. I explained my situation. As hard as she tried, she couldn't find any record of us owing anything, she transferred me to a supervisor who said the same. They took all my information and said they woulf have accounting research it and get back to me. It's been two weeks and they never have gotten back to me.

I google Transworld and found a phone number for Transworld and called. They have a recording telling the caller to send a letter this address! I found a different number and it had a recording asking to input the name of the person you want, but of course, they don't give you any names on their letter so you can't even do that! Not only is it unprofessional (as if any collection is) but their just plain Chicken!

If they are too frightened to speak to the people they send letters to, they shouldn't be in the collections business. What a bunch of bullies and we all know bullies are really chickens in disguise.
They keep sending the same letter and it puts me in such a bad mood that I finally sat down and wrote a letter to both them and Tivo. I also let Transworld that we are reporting them to the District attorney in Santa Rosa and the other agencies that regulate them as I finish researching them.
I'm surprised Tivo would use such a company. I just don't love Tivo like I used to now
=(
Anyone else have a similiar problem with them? I'll let you know what happens with my letter. I found their fax number so I'm faxing it so I have a record of the correspondance since I doubt I will hear from them in person.
It's too small of an amount for them to have their goons call and harass us and two little to bother responding. I read that they only charge the copmany $10.00 to send a letter, I guess that's why they don't want to discuss anything with you. Something needs to be done with these. Unethical people!

"I don't have time to sit down and write a letter about money I don't owe them or Tivo."

but you had time to write this rhetorical.

You need to send Transworld a letter, sent certified/return receipt demanding proof of the debt. Inform them that they are only to contact you in writing. Call Tivo, and maybe send them a letter certified/return receipt as well questioning this debt. If your account is up to date and this was just a billing mistake make sure to send Transworld another letter demanding they cease and desist all contact with you. We have a member here named DebtorBasher. Please look at her profile as she has some helpful links on her blog page that will help you with this issue.

This may be a scam. No number, just an address, hmmmm? Kind of "send us yourmoney, you'll never know that we're really not TIVO." Kind of like the e-mails to confirm your online banking for a bank where you don't do business. Contact your DA and your State Attorney General.

I hae same problem with this company. I should pay 770 but they charge me 871.52 for intrest>? can they do this? I signed agreement with the dance club but with no any intrest charge, so why they charging me. They sent letter same as yours, nothing and ask to pay the $770....now is more? Please help me with this intrest question, can they do it?

Transworld Systems does not handle your payment. The payment goe to the person the money is owed to. If you don't believe that you owe the money then contact the company (TIVO) and dispute it. They then have to provide proof of the debt to Transworld as they are the ones that say say you owe in the first place. If they can not provide proof then legally they have no claim to your money. If they can provide proof then you eithor dispute the service or you pay. Thats the way it works. But like I said, Transworld has nothing to do with the money, that is all the company such as TIVO.

If you dont owe the money then dont pay. Transworld can ding your credit. This is between you and Tivo - Tivo turned you in to Transworld, so you should be dealing with Tivo to resolve. Transworld is simply doing what Tivo hired them to do.

People who have nothing better to do than get bent out of shape about a $200 mistake kill me

Grow up

Here's some phone numbers for you pissed off people!
866-597-9502
866-301-7277
These are actual phone numbers to Transworld Systems!!! Maybe now you can get some issues resolved....
And just a piece of advice. When paying these collection agencies, do not give them your credit or debit card information. Send a cashier's check or money order. In the memo section write the account or reference number and the balance due (minus the payment you are making). IF they cash your check or money order, they are acknowledging that they agree to the balance due. And on your FINAL payment write the account number and "PAID IN FULL". Again, once they cash the check or money order, they are acknowledging that the account has been paid in full. Make sure you keep copies of any stubs so if necessary you can get a copy of the check or money order after it has been cashed to prove that they received the funds.
Just a tip from someone who has worked in collections before :) Good luck!

I work at Transworld, please allow me to explain a few things. We want you to stay in touch with the business you owe money too that's why we leave their # not ours. We handle disputes with our clients individually. If you're receiving one our letters, your credit hasn't been damaged. We're one of the few firms that don't hit your credit unless you've proven unresponsive.

Mistakes do happen, we're definitely not perfect. Sorry for any confusion. If you receive a letter first contact your business that issued it. If you're still having trouble feel free to call us at 707-236-3910.

Thanks!

@WMtarrant. The number you give is a recording with no way to leave a message. Don't waste your time. There is no FAX or email contact available for consumers. They provide no way to communicate other than a PO Box number. If the business who hired them is being obnoxious, you're out of luck. You'll just have to change your number and dispute with the credit bureaus. At least they have working phone numbers and ways to file a dispute online. I seriously don't understand why anyone pays this company for collections. They do nothing useful.

I'm thinking Mtarrant and James are a little late, this review was posted almost 2 years ago. But thanks for your input.

I have been on hold with Transworld System for 7 hours now! The only break is when the system broke in after the first 2 hours to tell me that they were closed @ 1230 pm central time, everything in all time zones I am pretty sure are operational at that time. My advice to anyone thinking of useing this firm for there collections would be you could have had your money who ever you are 2 days ago if these people would have answered the phone the first time I called. The first day I called it was a 3 hour wait then the system told me that they were closed. Uhmm doesnt there web site claim 24/7 collections. I have not received a letter just saw it on my credit report trying to clean it up. So customer first no letter then no answer on the phone equals no money for you plus the bill for their service but I am sure they are telling you they are doing the best that they can to collect this debt.
