Delta Airlines Complaint - 3 Day Delay Then Ticket Cancelled, Young Passenger Left Stranded At JFK
NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- I purchased a ticket for my 18 year old son to join his family in Ireland for a family reunion. He was scheduled to leave Boston Friday afternoon and arrive in Shannon early Saturday. He eventually made it here on Tuesday on a Aer Lingus flight. His Boston flight was delayed 8 hours and he missed his connection in JFK. Delta confirmed him for the following evening flight. When he arrived at 8 p.m, after spending all night and day at the airport Delta told him the flight was overbooked and he would have to wait another day.
They would not reroute him. Eventually they gave him a Ramada hotel voucher but he was not allowed to get a room until 3:30 a.m. I was in constant contact with Delta reservations and they assured me he was confirmed on Sunday evening flight. When he went to check in he was told his ticket had been cancelled and refunded to my credit card. No explanation of why. When he became upset and tried to find out what was going on, Delta representatives told him to leave the area or they would call security and have thrown out of the airport. By this time he had spent all his money. This is a young man who has never traveled alone, let alone to another country. The rest of our family was in Ireland, having gotten here just fine on US Air.
I was unaware of this cancellation until we went to pick him up at the airport the following morning and was told by Delta that "he" had requested his ticket cancelled and refunded back to him. Needless to say, we were beyond FURIOUS. We logged onto or e-mail and found a "help, help" message. We booked him on an Aer Lingus flight that evening for $781. A very kind and generous good Samaritan had found him forlorn and sleeping in the bar at the Ramada Inn and paid for a room for him. When he finally arrived here he was so exhausted and stressed he has been sleeping. His one week vacation in Ireland is down to maybe 2 enjoyable days. To top it off, Delta never refunded the money.
Their response to me was address the issue at Delta.com. I even e-mailed them and never received a response. I feel that Delta put my son's safety at risk and has acted beyond the law. If anyone has experienced this abuse with Delta and gotten some resolution, please let me know. My son told me that he saw plenty of other passengers who were treated badly by Delta but none as extreme as his situation.
