HIP Health Insurance Complaint - Denied Admission - Admission To Hospital

Review by turksncaicos on 2008-08-21
NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- My sister fell on Sunday 8/17 and was admitted by ambulance to a hospital of not her choice. After 11 hours in emergency it was decided that she needed surgery for a tiabi plateau fracture. This diagnosis was not made until hours later and the hospital needed the swelling on the knee to subside before actually doing the surgery. The doctors said they would operate on Monday, but in the interim my sister was calling her own orthopedic doctor to be transferred when he was affiliated. After several attempts to reach him over two days, nothing happened until I was able to contract someone at my job who interceded and arranged to have my sister transferred to Lenox Hill when they performed this type of surgery often. After believing that the transferred would go through, HIP denied the transfer even through her doctor is affiliated with the hospital and he, plus the hospital take her insurance which is HIP.

They actual said if she left the hospital that she is in now and go to Lenox Hill that they would not pay either hospital. HIP Health Insurance is the worse insurance to have; they actual blackmail their subscribers -- they are horrible!

My sister now has no other options because she needs the surgery and must stay at a hospital of not her choice and have surgery performed by a doctor who, although, is capable, but does not do this type of surgery often.
