Hertz Informative - Hetz Does Not Care About Your Privacy
My wifre rented recently in Manhattan under her name and towards the end of the transaction the lady at the counter asked her about her IBM identificaiton; my wife was confused as shed does not work for IBM not she ever had (I did work for them in the past). My wife said she had booked it at the rate available on their website and this rental has nothing to do with IBM upon which the lady said that is not true as the rate shows as IBM; when my wife looked at the contract sure enoug it said so, but it had my name on it instead of hers. My wife was now even more surprised as the rental was booked under her name.
Now, the lady at the counter asked her if she and I use the same credit card and when my wife replied in the affirmative, the lady at the counter casually explained that it is the reason why the rental was automatically redirected to my name. Huh? So they use my credit card number as a key? That is absolutely brilliant design of their computer systems - my credit card number is exposed all over the place now instead of it being secure and only the last 4 digits showing up. I am just amazed at what this large corporations get away with. What audacity do they have to identify and link 2 people together that way? Besides breaching security, this is utter disregard for privary. If she wanted to rent the car in my name, she would have done so; Hertz does not have to tell her that.
Anyway the lady did manage to fix the issue, but in the whole confusion ended up dinging her for the liabality insurance charges which she had declined.
