Pepsi Cola Complaint - Requesting Donations For Local Fund Raising Events - Donation Requests

Donation Requests - Complaint
Review by katiecamero on 2008-08-24
WILMINGTON, NORTH CAROLINA -- My name is Katie Camero. I am a local business person in Jacksonville NC. I am also this years event coordinator for our local motorcycle club (Southern Cruisers, Port City Chapter 162) 6th annual fund raising event called "Run to the Sun" which benefits St Jude Childerns Research Hospital.

I contacted the Wilmington Pepsi Company and requested a donation. I was told to fax the information and I would get a response in 3 business days.

Being a local business owner I know that I receive quite a few requests for donations for local events, and that I can not possibly donate to every person who makes a request.

When asked I always just say, I am sorry I can't help you this year. Please try again next year.

After 2 weeks with no response from Wilmington Pepsi, I called to make sure that my request was received.

The person who answered the phone SHOCKED me, by how rude they were.

I was told, "Of course we received your request, If you did not hear from us it is because your not getting anything!"

For the past 25 years my company has served Pepsi products. I chose Pepsi because I have always received excellent customer service.

Never has anyone at Pepsi been rude to me.

I would have completely understood if the person had just said, I am sorry we are unable to help your event this year. There was no need for them to treat me rudely.

I just thought you might want to know this.

Thank you for your time,

Katie Camero

Perhaps the economy is rough on Pepsi Co. Try again next year.

some people do not have good telephone etiquettes.

Unfortunately not everyone has the same class that you do. If it were me, I'd call back and ask to speak to that person's direct manager and let them know of your experience, I'm betting they won't be too pleased to hear it.

I agree with justcuz. I would ask for the direct manager of this individual. Perhaps they did not wish to contribute, but I am sure that management would not be happy to hear that their representative was so rude. But, I suggest you remember the conversation clearly. Make sure that you were not aggravated by the lack of initial response to your request and that you are not reading more into what happened when you called back.

I don't think there's any way "Of course we received your request, If you did not hear from us it is because your not getting anything" could be a polite comment that misconstrued by the OP in frustration.

wgaguy1984, people can "embelish" upon what really happened when they are upset. That was my point. I have another point to. How do we konw that this post is not a solicitation or spam? There sure is a lot of pertinent information about the motorcycle club including the chapter number, along with the charity the money is for along with her full name. Why not just post that she attempted to get a contribution from Pepsi and was treated badly? I always look at these posts with a skeptical eye.

Because of the economy, many corporations are cutting back on their charitable donations, especially at a time when demand for services from such charities is at an all time high. However, it is wrong for the local Pepsi bottler to give you such a rude response to your request for a charitable donation. At least they could have sent you a form letter or gave you a courtesy call explaining why they couldn't donate.
