Holiday Inn Complaint - Bed Bugs
VESTAL, NY, NEW YORK -- My husband, son and I stayed in the Holiday Inn in Vestal NY the day before he started Binghamton University. We woke up the next morning with bites on our legs, arms and torso. My husband had an allergic reaction to the bites and spent the night in a hospital. The doctor said it was the worst case of bed bug bites he had ever seen. We got no satisfaction from the hotel, who stated that housekeeping checked it out and couldn't find anything. We had to throw our suitcases and clothes out for fear of an infestation in our home. My husband is still on steroids to control the itching and swelling.
The hotel manager offered to give us a discounted rate on future stays. What a joke. Needless to say we are contacting the Dept. of health and writing a notice to be placed in all the Binghamton U. dorms asking the students to inform their parents about this situation.
Company Response on 03/26/2010:
While Bed Bugs are a very real concern to all hotels I would like to clarify the question of bed bugs in our hotel...the guest was informed not that our housekeeping had checked the room but that the Health Department had been called immediately, came right over and cleared the room. There were no bedbugs found by the NY Department of Health.
We are very conscientious and protective of all our guests. If there is a possibility of any issues such as this we take immediate action. We are also a very pro-active hotel and as such we have a company which comes in and checks our rooms once a month.
