USA Auto Rental Complaint - USA Auto Rental BEWARE!

Review by Canadian Snowbird on 2008-08-27
FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA -- On August 7th, 2008 I was preparing to leave for Fort Lauderdale within 18 hours. My suitcases were packed, my children were with my month and everything was ready to go. I finished work two days prior and was at the mall getting my last minute items. Alas.....not more e-mails, no more customers, and no more supervisors. Then my cell phone rang.

It was a co-worker of mine calling me to let me know that she checked my e-mail for me and said there was an e-mail from USA Auto Rental letting me know that I don't have a car. I immediately called them and was advised that they were moving their office and that they didn't have a car for me. I asked why they didn't contact me before and I was told that they didn't have computer access. I asked why they didn't call and she said that they didn't have a phone. Are you kidding me? I'm less than 18 hours before my flight and they tell me that they can't supply me with a car? If my co-worker hadn't checked my e-mail I would have arrived at the Fort Lauderdale airport and found out then that I didn't have a vehicle.

Even though I was able to get another car from another rental agency, it was a stat holiday in my neck of the woods; therefore I wasn't able to transfer the insurance policy. Because I wasn't able to get the insurance policy transferred I had to pay an additional $60 to the new car rental company so I had coverage. Not to mention I had to pay more for the car because my new car rental agency didn't have an economy or compact car left (USA Auto Rental $165.80 and new rental $255.59).

To this day I still haven't received an apology or a reasonable explanation as to why it took so long to notify me. They had to know long before this that they were going to be moving and their systems would be down for a short period of time. So unless you want to be left stranded at the airport I would suggest you use a more reliable and customer service oriented car rental agency.

Not a good way to keep customers. I am unfamiliar with insurance when you say you weren't " able to transfer the insurance policy." I thought you either buy insurance from the rental company or you use your own insurance, this sounds like a 3rd party selling insurance. Any clarification would be helpful to me.

Did you ever receive a refund from USA Auto? If not, I would contact your credit card's company and request a dispute be filed. Don't let them get away with your money.

USA Auto Rental and Leasing, LLC (www.usa-auto-rental.com , notice all the typs and spelling mistakes) is a rinky-dink operation using old, dirty, and poorly maintained vehicles out of an industrial site with falling fencing and old rusted motor homes stored all over their property. I have checked with the Ft. Lauderdale Airport and they are not licensed to pick-up customers at the airport but yet they do and I have checked with the City of Fort Lauderdale and they do not even have a business tax license to do business out of their property at 3251 SW 1st Terrace ( http://www.fortlauderdale.gov/egovplus/license/buslic.aspx ) just put in the street address number (3251) and then the street name (1) and watch what happens. You don't actually have to believe me, you can see for yourself.

GOOD LUCK if you use them!!!
