United Parcel Service Complaint - Unauthorized Deliveries
ANCHORAGE, ALASKA -- The most current example of disregard for my shipments is yesterday.
The company addressing the UPS label entered 1 digit wrong in the street address. Despite a current, correct telephone number in 3/16" print on the label, UPS did not call for a correct address. This telephone number is connected to both voice mail and overflow/rollover voice mail, and there were no messages. Instead, UPS delivered the package to someone I don't know, at an address I have tried to get UPS to quit using for several years.
I moved from this address several years ago, and prior to that had tried to get UPS to stop delivering there. Despite any shipper requirements, UPS would routinely leave a box of new blank checks, a $1000 computer part, or other expensive items on a porch visible from the street. UPS did not have "no signature required" authority from me. When I called UPS to ask them not to leave these items, I was told that it was UPS policy to leave them outside, unprotected, with no signature.
I then had to use Mail Boxes, Etc. to receive shipments. I later found out that since UPS owned Mail Boxes, Etc, I was, in effect, paying UPS not to leave items on my porch. I still pay for a similar service for the same reason - protection from UPS.
UPS has also delivered my packages, without any authority to do so, to neighboring houses. They have refused to change a delivery address when I contacted them after discovering a company had shipped to an incorrect address.
UPS service regarding deliveries has been much worse than FedEx in my experience, but companies I buy from often do not offer a choice for shipping, so it is impossible to prevent UPS from continuing to have opportunities to willfully and unnecessarily expose my property to theft and delay.
