Coca Cola Complaint - Very Bad Tasting Coca Cola - Diet Coke, 8 Oz Glass Bottle

Diet Coke, 8 Oz Glass Bottle - Complaint
Review by Smalley on 2008-08-28
PLAINWELL, MICHIGAN -- I have an old car (55 "T" Bird) and have it in a residential museum. I also have a Vendo 33 (1954) coke machine in the museum and stock it with 8 Oz glass bottles which it dispensed in 1954. I was elated to see that coke was using the 8 oz glass bottle again but also heard they were going to discontinue using them so I purchased 3 cases so I could use the old machine.

Now I find that all of the coke I bought has a terrible taste and has made my grandkids ill.

I have destroyed all the "bad" coke and hope I can purchase more but Iam, to say the least, a bit skeptical of doing so for fear that I will have the same results.

Signed,
Disappointed
Jim

Did you contact Coke and let them know?

You did the right thing by destroying all the bad coke.

Hmm, that's interesting. I've never seen Diet Coke in the 8 oz glass bottles, just Coke Classic. If you contact Coke, they may replace the bad Coke for you. I purchased Coke and when I opened it, it was flat. I contacted Coke, gave them the imprinted id #'s and they sent me a free case. Good luck to you.

Diet sodas have a short shelf life; weeks after the expiration date on the packaging (I know the cans and plastic bottles have expiration dates stamped; maybe on the glass bottles there's a code on the cap. The typical shelf life of diet sodas is 3-4 months...usually within a month or two past the expiration date the aspartame in the diet sodas starts breaking down and the diet soda takes on a rancid taste. If you bought the bottles months ago, or if they sat on a store shelf for months, they're likely past their prime. Look for an expiration date next time you buy soda in glass bottles-most likely it's part of the code on the bottle cap.

Good to know, GenuineNerd.

Good info from MSCANTBEWRONG and GenuineNerd. If you contact Coke they will make it right. I've never seen diet coke in the small glass bottles either, but I know they sell different sodas and different sizes/packaging in different geographic areas. Maybe they just don't sell it here because there is not a high enough demand for it.
