UTAH -- I bought a membership for my boyfriend at the time. I guess my card it was supposed to be charged to changed or something. I didn't hear from anyone for about 4 months after the first payment that was past due, was due. Then my boyfriend started getting calls from Gold's Gym saying he was over due. I didn't buy him a membership to golds, I bought it to a different company. We had been going to Xcel for 6 months. We had no idea that Gold's gym took it over. He tried to fax them everything they wanted. Didn't hear from them. 3 Months later, they called him again. He tried it again and they then wanted him to pay over 200 dollars for the cancellation fee (which was $50 dollars) and all the months he hadn't paid. (plus interest) he told them he would pay the 90 plus tax.
They finally gave up on him we didn't hear from them for almost a year figuring they gave up. I now received a collections notice because I was the one that signed for it saying they have tried to contact me and that I owe $790. This was the first letter I have received from them. I read the contract clearly and it was $50 to cancel if we moved 15 miles away from the nearest Xcel.
We just needed to provide a copy of our license showing that we moved. Tried that with golds and they won't budge an inch even though we tried to take care of it over a year ago.
