Sanyo Manufacturing Corp Complaint - Defective Model, Yet No Recall! - 42" Sanyo Television Model Dp42746

42" Sanyo Television Model Dp42746 - Complaint
Review by teriot on 2008-09-03
HALIFAX, MASSACHUSETTS -- I bought a 42" Sanyo television model DP42746 on April 14, 2007 at Walmart. I spent $1000.00. In July of this year the screen went black, but the sound was fine. I called the company and was told they could not help me because the warranty had expired. They then HUNG UP!! I emailed them, and was told the same thing, except that I should "carry" it to a local repair shop (at my own expense I am assuming!). I have done some research on line and have found an awful lot of people who are experiencing the same problem with this model. Some have spent up to $900.00 trying to repair it only to find out that it is not repairable. I have spent hard earned money on a product that I thought to be reputable only to find that it was lacking in quality and dependability and that complaints are bountiful about this particular product and yet no recall has been done and I have to question if it was only sold at Wal-mart, were they aware of the poor quality that they were selling, or was it two companies working together to make a buck regardless of who got hurt in the end?

The TV model is no longer a model that is sold or even on the Sanyo website visually, which only seems to confirm their knowledge of a problem with the particular model. Their poor consumer relations simply supports their poor ethics in general.

You did have it for fifteen months - how long did you expect the warranty to cover it? Have you taken it to a repair center for an estimate of repair costs? It might not be as bad as you think.

Models change constantly in electronics. After a year I would be surprised if any large ticket items would still be there since they have been 'improved' or at least changed. Consumer Reports has model DP42848 (not your specific model) 42 inch rated as lowest in the 40-42" inch range. I do agree, 15 months on an expensvie TV is ridiculous.

Thanks for the review. I do think however getting an estimate for repairs wouldn't hurt.

47" Sanyo LCD DP 47460 turns itself off by itself. Sanyo is terrible and now I see Walmart selling REFURBISHED ones! Lucky for those that returned in before the warranty went out. PLEASE READ THIS AND DON'T BUY SANYO PRODUCTS>

Wow
isn' this something
I have a Sanyo DP42840 that just keeps turning off and on with no picture. It is only 7 months old and of all things I have lost the reciept to it due to natural causes (flood in basement) Sanyo will not assist me and Walmart does not want to assist me either. I almost feel lucky as I only spent 739 on the TV.
I do agree that the manufacturer should have a recall on the tv but instead all they want to do is stall people and give them the run around. Walmart is no better since they wont even consider halping me.
So next time I see the greeter in walmart and they pretend to care. It is just going to reinforce to me that all walmart is, is a big box company that facks that they care about anyone or anything in their store. They will sell crap to anyone stupid enough to buy it and will not have any concious about it when the crap falls apart.
Yes I am mad at Sanyo and I believe that they need to shape up and become accountable for their products for more then a 1 year warranty on their TVs but I am really upset at walmart for always pretending like they care about the communities they have stores in and the people that make up the communities. If they really cared they would make sure that they either backed their products they sell no matter what within a reasonable time frame or just not sell crap.
That is my thoughts and if anyone has gotten anywhere with complaints about either company please let me know so I can possibly take the same route
thanks
