Texaco Complaint - Texaco Gas Scam!!!! - Gas Station

Review by Jenny 1010 on 2008-09-04
MIAMI, FLORIDA -- Be aware! I went to a Texaco Station in Miami and the price on the street sign was lower than what they charged at the pump! Furthermore, they placed tape over the where you swipe your credit card at the pump so that you have to go inside and pay; that way you don't receive a receipt that itemizes how much you paid per gallon like he receipt you get at the pump!

Check the sign and the pump and definitely be suspicious if they don't let you pay at the pump!

I'm not sure about Florida, but in California you can report these types of incidents to the department of weights and measures. Go get 'em!!!

Hell yes you can report them! I believe that's a Federal Law they're breaking. I reported this very thing to a Shell station manager once, after I paid for my gas. He immediately shut his pumps down until he got his street price and pump price matched up. I believe he made an honest mistake. It sure shook him up.

You also probably arrived at the gas station around the time the prices were changing...perhaps the prices were changed at the pump but the outside sign wasn't changed yet. Because of the volatility of oil prices today, sometimes gas stations, regardless of brand, will change prices several times a day. Gasoline may be $3.49 at 7:00 AM, but will change to $3.59 by 3:00 PM.

In CT some stations are offering a break if you pay cash, but the signs also state the difference in price.

It is possible their credit card connection was malfunctioning. All you had to do was ask for a receipt. I think there should be a discount for all cash transactions, everywhere, because the retailer doesn't have to pay 3-5% to the credit card company unless a credit card is used.

I was in TN two weeks ago and regular was $2.78, diesel was $3.49. I couldn't believe my eyes!

We have a gas station near me that charges .05 less per gallon if you pay cash...because the gas station has to pay a fee for each Credit Card transaction. It was $3.49 with credit card and $3.44 with cash.

$3.29 over here in Vriginia.

It's illeagl to charge extra to use a credit card in California. So a few operate just like Yoke's in CT. They post the listed price then give a discount off the list price for cash. Same thing, six of one, half dozen of another, but they get away with it. Debit cards are considered same as credit cards.

Best price I have seen in our area was $3.69.

3.29 in OKC as well.

There was a big stink about it in CT when they first started doing it. The Shell station up the street gives a .10 discount for cash.

$3.69 Super? I paid $3.89 in Irvine last night. I'm really going to keep my eyes peeled now.

I saw $3.49 yesterday in the Cleveland, OH area.

$2.78? Unbelievable!
We are ranging anywhere from $3.61 to $3.79 here, depending where you go.

For those within the Stop & Shop marketing area, when you use your S&S card at the register, you get a point for every dollar spent. For every 50 points, you get 10 cents of the price per gallon at their gas pumps. I don't shop much, but even so I filled my tank last Saturday at $2.94 a gallon. Did you ever think that the day would come when $2.94 / gallon could make you do a happy dance?

In CT it is $3.65.
Price Chopper does the same thing. About a month ago I was able to save $2.10 a gallon. We are up to .70 as of this morning.
