UPS - United Parcel Service Complaint - Lost My Passport!
BROOKLYN, NEW YORK -- 9/9/08
Five days ago I received an empty envelope on my doorstep from the UPS that was supposed to contain my passport. It appeared as though the envelope was defective and popped open due to lack of glue on one side. As a result I just paid $630 to get a passport expedited as I'm leaving the country in five days.
The UPS refused to insure my passport as it apparently had no monetary value (obviously they were wrong), they left the envelope that was 'supposed' to have my passport in it on my doorstep instead of requiring a signature upon delivery as was requested by the sender, AND their envelope was defective thus loosing my FEDERAL PASSPORT! However, I'll only be getting $100 in compensation from them.
Friday when I paid $630 to get my new passport expedited, my mother mailed her passport via the Post Office with a required signature and got it insured up to $500 for a grand total of $10...$13 less than it cost to have mine sent via the UPS and she got all the extra's including protection that I did not.
I will NEVER EVER utilize the UPS's crappy, unreliable, non-user friendly, unhelpful, incompetent lack of service again (not that they care!)
Word to the wise, use another carrier and ALWAYS INSURE YOUR PASSPORT if you must have it mailed!
