Whirlpool - The Nightmare Begins
Flamelock LPG 40 Gal Water Heater
WHEATON, MISSOURI -- Wow, never seen so many complaints on such a simple and for the most part reliable appliance!
I bought this water heater out of a foreclosed home where the new owner was going all electric.
The heater was 2 yrs old @ the time, yet had only had about a years worth of use due to sitting vacant for a yr after it was installed.
I have had it in service for about a year now, and am experiencing similar symptoms concerning the pilot light.
It will go out for no apparent reason. Then I will have to relight it, and when it wants to it will stay lit usually long enough to heat 40 gal worth of water.
I suspect it is the thermal cpl, but also am suspect of the pilot itself. The flame has gone from a little blue to large bright yellow, with the flame almost touching the tank liner.
Soot build up can be seen on the liner and some has even fallen onto the vent screen below the burner.
It is my opinion that the flame is causing thermal cpl failure, as it seems to possibly be a little too hot. this was the case on a ventless heater where the flame was too high on the pilot and had to replace the therm on it 3 times during one heating season.
after replacing the orifice on that heater, all was well with the thermal cpl.
I really wish I would have done some research on this heater before I bought it, but if worst really is worst, at least I am only out 75 buck compared to what others here have paid for it new, and can consider it a lesson learned.
Good luck with this one.
