Honda Complaint - LaFontaine Honda Pricing Scam
DEARBORN, MICHIGAN -- LaFontaine Honda refused to take an order for a new Honda Fit stating that Honda America did not allow new car orders as all Fits were built for the Lease Market and we could only purchase from a meager 3 or 4 car monthly allotment of cars built to order by Honda America. Therein lies the scarcity ploy. In other words the customer could put a deposit on a car and and take it or leave it when any car arrived. This allowed them to "build up" cars with options and get more than the customer initially wanted to pay for a car they didn't order.
When a car with the same options we specified arrived, we were informed that the dealership would not honor the contract price.
Honda America claims it has no control over the dealership in pricing matters, so in effect they make their money off dealers who do their dirty work for them. I would not have thought a company with a decent car needed to sully it's reputation for quality with unethical or illegal sales strategies. As the Honda contact person stated, it's a free market system. What ever you get in writing, isn't what you pay at Lafontaine Honda and Honda America is fine with that. Honda America is already in litigation over cheating customers on hidden new car sales costs. This is the same company that extorted money from Honda and Acura dealers and refused to deliver cars to dealers unless the dealers paid bribes or kickbacks to Honda sales executives. Honda seems to have a recurring problem with ethics.
