father & son moving and storage of jacksonville Complaint - this company is a rip-off

JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA -- On October 25th 2000 I was ripped off for $1839.00 by "Farther & Son Movers", (that is not even the company I though I was hiring, I thought I was hiring a company called "All in the Family Moving & Storage, Inc.", when the truck showed up it was "Farther & Son Movers". It seams they bought the other company so as to hide there bad name).
I was quoted for the move between $800.00 and $1000.00, (the $1000.00 was worst case scenario), I was assured it could not go over that. After the men loaded my goods onto there truck I was told I would have to pay a $1839.00 charge or they would not give me back my goods, as my computer and home theater systems alone are worth over $20,000.00 plus they had all of both mine and my wife's clothes, all our furniture. I had no choice but to agree to pay what ever they said, (this was out and out extortion). So against my will I allowed them to put the $1839.00 charge on my American Express Blue Card.
After they left and I was unpacking a found that my lockbox had been broken into and both mine and my wife's jewelry, (everything that she was not wearing), had been stolen. A value of a little over $3400.00. The Insurance only covered $1963.84.
They also a never returned on of our curio cabinet worth about $200.00.
They also damaged the following items:
1) A computer desk, replacement cost about $200.00
2) A microwave cabinet, replacement cost about $150.00
3) A china cabinet, repair cost about $150.00
4) A snack table, replacement cost about $10.00
A loss to me of about $4110.00 less the money paid to me by "Allstate Insurance Company" leaves me with a loss of a little over $2146.00.
Later that morning I called the mover and told him I was going to dispute the charge and about the theft and damages. At this point when I had most,(everything but the stolen objects), of my goods back they were much more polite, and admitted they had over charged me and were "willing" to "only" take $1300.00 for the move. I told them that was still over the amount of the quote and that until I got all my goods back we had very little to talk about.(Even though they said they were going to issue a refund for $539.00 they never to this date have done so).
American Express told me that even if I was forced to sign against my will I had no "proff" of this so I must pay the full charge and found for the mover if full.
