Hertz Complaint - Poor Customer Service, Questionable Business Practices
LOMITA, CALIFORNIA -- I rented a car for the weekend to drive to San Diego. With the online promotional coupon and a discount at the counter, the rate was exceptional. The car was what I expected, and the initial service when I picked up the car was professional. However, I had a bad service experience when returning the car and wanted to alert other consumers. When I rented the car, the tank was 1/4 full. I found this highly unusual, but the service associate said they just didn't have time to fill it, so I could return it 1/4 full.
On the way to return it, I saw the gauge was a tick under 1/4 full and stopped at a gas station a block from the rental office to add $5.00. The finicky gauge did not move whatsoever. When I returned the car, the location manager said he was going to charge me a substantial refill surcharge plus gas. So I went back to the gas station and added another $5.00; the gauge then jumped to nearly 1/2 full. So now I had overpaid for gas (giving them more back than they initially gave me) and was late for an appointment due to the wild goose chase I had been forced to undertake. I complained to the manager upon my second attempt to return the vehicle.
However, he cut me off, refused to speak with me, and was disrespectful and rude. I would not recommend this location. I have always viewed Hertz as the top of the line, but they have certainly fallen off their pedestal in my view. My advice...stay away from this location if you can.
