Carolina Roofing Contractors Compliment - New roof and soffit vents

Review by Mollyman on 2008-09-27
CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA -- Carolina Roofing Contractors

Short version:
Roof B+ to A.
Vents D.

Long version. The bid on the roof was not the lowest, but they have a really good BBB track record, and are a roofing contractor -not a general contractor. They showed up on time, and finished in one day. They used the best materials available, and I was really impressed. After it was completed, the salesman went on the roof to double check everything and he was up there 45 minutes doing little things.

The bid for the vents worked out to 30.00 each. The vents are cheap, so it's mostly labor. A properly installed vent (according to the manufacturer) requires a hole in the soffit the size of the vent. Drill starter holes and cut out the full size of the vent. Rather than cutting out the proper size hole, they just drilled a few 1.5 inch holes and covered them with the vent. That does supply some venting, but IMO just drilling holes is not worth anywhere near the amount they charged.

Overall, I would highly recommend them for roofing, but do your own vents. Also, they have a coupon for 100.00 off on the net.

you are correct, holes do not replace an opening. this is the same as window screen actually do create drag.

see if they will come out and fix. BUT, if they placed the correct amount of holes, then you are fine. count the number of holes, and times by the 1.5", this will give the total free area. all roof vents have a set number for free air flow.
