Discover Card Complaint - Free Keurig Coffee Maker Offer
We were looking to purchase a Keurig B60 coffee maker, and lo and behold! here was a an offer free one if you activate a new Discover Card. Sounded like a good deal (obviously...can't get much better than free) so we signed up. The website for the free offer has a three step process you can monitor to see how things are progressing on your precious coffee maker. Step one was easy. Register for a card. We did that, and it came. The website says you have activate the card. We did that, too. We called Discover and activated it, and then we used it to make three purchases--nearly $200 worth. The website continues to say that the card needs to be activated.
So I made some phone calls...and here's "the real deal." You finally use the card, and that's when it's actually activated. The billing cycle date is established by that first purchase, so if you wait a week to get the card, and wait a week to use the card, you are already two weeks out. Then they eventually send you a bill, and then you pay the bill, and then the post your payment, and THEN they notify the coffee maker middleman to begin processing your shipment. The middleman requires 10-12 weeks to get it to you, which means from the time you fill out the form for a new Discover Card--salivating with joy over a cup of Green Mountain Kona Blend coffee, you are at least 18 weeks from getting it.
Is that reasonable? I don't think so, and the upshot is, I'm extremely dubious about all the other claims and offers they are making. Nope, Discover is no longer in my pocket. I don't like being played for a sucker.
