Clothing Stores Complaint - Unable To Find The Correct Size

Review by old fart on 2008-09-30
SAGINAW, MICHIGAN -- I just went on shopping expedition for one simple purpose. That was to find a pair of khakis or blue jeans. The size I need is 38" waist and 28" length.
I walked all over Fashion Square mall in Saginaw Michigan, Walmart, K-mart, Meijers and Target and in all cases I could find nothing in that size...
All the stores have sizes ranging from what a teeny bopper would wear to "big and tall".

I do not need big and tall, I need "short and fat'.! I'd also like to find a place that doesn't cost an arm and a leg... Any suggestions will be welcome..

Have you tried Costco or Sam's? My son needs length of 30, and so many times we can find the 28, but not the 30.

Arrgh.... Sorry for the hideous spelling/typing. Trying to type around a cat in my lap >_<

I'm too cheap to go to Men's Wearhouse but thanks for the suggestion...

I hate shopping for clothes...can't we all just go nude?

....well not all of us

My Dad (79 and 6'2", 110 lbs) likes the thrift stores (he hates to spend money on cloths). He also likes someplace called 'Kohl's'.

I feel your pain too OF, I have to buy pants for tall women because I have long legs, though I'm not considered tall as I'm 5'7" - so I either can't find anything that fits or I have to have my work slacks tailored to fit. When it comes to jeans, I love Old Navy, have you looked there?
Posted by old fart on 2008-09-30:
No one, and I mean NO ONE would want to see me nude....
You'd pluck out your own eyes at the sight..

I did say "well not all of us" lol

Mrs. V's idea of Kohl's might just work. They often have pretty good sales. I bought some nice towels there a couple of weeks ago at 60% off. And, they do have a large men's section. Check it out. I think they are pretty much everywhere now--sort of took Mervyn's place, I think.

of, I run into the same problem. The nice thing about getting old is I really don't care if it fits perfect unless it's golf shoes or clubs.

OF, what about Levi's? They're not too expensive and come in wide range of sizes.

My boyfriend has problems when he buys pants at Kohls. He wears a 34x30 and we have had to return so many pairs of pants that were marked wrong. They were either too small in the waist or too long in length. If he would just try the pants on before he buys them we wouldn't have to keep going back to exchange them. Men.

I'm only 5' but I'm definitely not a size zero... sometimes the only thing I can do is get the pants that fit around the waist hemmed... if you find the right person, it's not too bad!
Posted by Anonymous on 2008-09-30:
hmmm let's see..mainly Old Navy, Macy's, Ann Taylor Loft, Eddie Bauer, Express, Kohls...where do you shop TW??
Posted by Anonymous on 2008-09-30:
I want to go shopping now!

Im a shorts and T-shirt kinda guy.I get my clothes from a variety of surf/skate shops.I don't like to dress up in suits, dockers, and all that nonsense.

I will, when I meet with a vendor,or a sales rep wear some nice jeans and a button down Quiksilver/Volcom/Billabong shirt...

In another month it will be colder than a well-digger's A$$ and I need to find something to cover it..I will check out Kohl's tomorrow and maybe Men's Wearhouse...
If anyone has anymore suggestions I will be eternally grateful...

I am 62 YOA, stand 5'5" tall and weigh 215 lbs. I wear pretty much the same size as you do, 38 X 30. I say I am an OFIT (Old Fart In Training) and my son says I should at least have a Master's in Fartdom. ROFL. I buy my pants at Wal-Mart and Goodwill. Just as with a man's size 9 shoe, it is so common, they sell out almost as fast as they get them in the store. Just keep trying is my advice.
Posted by old fart on 2008-09-30:
Starlord... the problem seems to be that none of the stores I've tried have anything shorter than a 29 inch length... evidently I have squatty little legs compounded with the fact that I can't hitch my pants up around my belly.. (everytime I try that, my pants fall down around my ankles)...

Not a pretty sight...!

I'm built like a weeble..
Posted by Anonymous on 2008-09-30:
OF, have you tried suspenders??
Posted by Starlord on 2008-09-30:
Don't feel bad, Crystal often has to re-hem the legs for me.
Ito am built like a weebil. I wobble, but DO fall down. ROFLMAO.
Posted by old fart on 2008-09-30:
I don't like how they feel Cuz...Beside the fact that they make me look sooo old...
Posted by Anonymous on 2008-09-30:
my grandfather used to wear 'em under his shirts..cuz he didn't like the way they looked either..it didn't seem very comfy to me but he said it didn't bother him and it 'got the job done.'
Posted by old fart on 2008-09-30:
Starlord.. I may end up going back to Penney's... they will re-hem them for $7 a pair.. that kind of defeats the purpose of finding a bargain..
Posted by old fart on 2008-09-30:
I know there are "big and tall" stores...
I need a "short and dumpy" store...

Perhaps someone will come on board and suggest a website to order from. I have a family member who wears size 13 shoes. Years ago they were quite hard to find. He learned of a company that specialized in the harder to find sizes and has ordered from them since then. No matter, if your height, weight or shoe size is not considered average you might have a problem finding your size. Those mail order places that specialize in hard to find sizes also have nice sale prices as well.
Posted by old fart on 2008-09-30:
Thanks No handle.. it's a thought...
Posted by Anonymous on 2008-09-30:
OF... try Kohl's. I find that they consistently have the best selection of both styles and sizes.
Posted by DebtorBasher on 2008-09-30:
Do you have a "Value City" Department store in your area? I'm sure they would have the size you're looking for.
Posted by old fart on 2008-09-30:
Basher... the Value city store went belly-up here in Saginaw..
Posted by DebtorBasher on 2008-09-30:
Go to the big and tall place..and cut the extra off the legs and add it to the waist!

Basher solves another one.....NEXT!
Posted by old fart on 2008-09-30:
Basher has no compassion for us weebles....
