Amazon.com Complaint - Amazon Ruined Our Christmas
SOUTHEASTERN, MASSACHUSETTS -- After receiving repeated offers of free shipping in time for Christmas, I did the bulk of my Christmas shopping on Amazon. I bought about $300.00 of items, mainly to be from Santa for my six year old daughter (who's very, very good!) I am disabled, and did not arrange to get out to shop because I believed Amazon dependable.
I placed the order on December 11. As soon as I entered my credit card, they said they didn't recommend the free shipping, because it may not arrive for Christmas. (THe whole reason I chose Amazon was the free shipping in time for Christmas) Since the ads all said it would arrive for Christmas, I selected free shipping anyway. I got an email almost immediately stating that I should expect most of the order about December 31. I am nearly deaf (and you can't find a phone number anywhere on the site anyway), so I wrote to Amazon to emphasize the importance of getting the order by Christmas. The representative wrote back that I had not selected paid shipping so, it wouldn't be shipped until all their warehouses assembled the items at a single location. The email included a phone number which I called the next day. It was a struggle to communicate, but finally I received confirmation that the order would go out right away, because I HAD selected ship as available (I told the person that I had not, but that I would if I had to). I received two items (out of 12), which had been shipped for a fee from a separate vendor represented by Amazon.
On December 23, I got worried so I called again. My order had not been shipped and would not be for several days. I canceled it, and vowed never to do business there again. I never even received an apology.
I was lucky to have a friend pick up some items to put under the tree for my poor daughter. I had wasted hours shopping on Amazon, and all I got was worry and disappointment. Today I read that Amazon states, "it shipped 99% of its orders to arrive by Christmas". If that's true, then one out of every 100 orders they received was not shipped in time. I hope it was not young children who suffered those disappointments.
