SUNY Geneseo Informative - A Bad Place To Be - Poor Management; Bad Morale

Review by OhMyGosh on 2008-10-10
GENESEO, NEW YORK -- SUNY Geneseo on paper appears to be a good place to work and a good place to send your children. DON'T BELIEVE ALL OF THE HYPE. Students are placed under way too much pressure and work (under the rubric of rigor, breadth, and depth). Faculty morale is terrible. If you walk around campus, eavesdrop on conversations, and you will hear the disgruntlement.

How do students and faculty cope with all of this -- excessive drinking, stealing, and general nastiness.

Be careful if you are a student athlete and looking for a college. SUNY Geneseo has had NCAA violations and sanctions but has managed to keep the whole thing hushed up. Do you really want to play sports at a college where the athletic program might be shut down?

As a supervisor at SUNY Geneseo (I.e. Geneseo College), I witnessed and had to deal with theft by staff, students and faculty. Students (and sometimes staff, I.e. janitors) are dealt with harshly and punitively. On the other hand, faculty can steal PINS, rummage through others' desks, tamper with surveillance cameras, sabbotage each other's research, and pilfer someone else's personnel documents and then are not even given a slap on the wrist. This double standard is disturbing, especially for a place that is supposed to be so enlightened.
