Winn-Dixie Stores/Save Rite Informative - Overall food quality standards.
ATLANTA, GEORGIA -- I used to work for this company, and printed policy says that they will offer the best quality food possible. This is a lie. Let's break this down by department so you can read what I have seen.
Meat Department: Saw meat clerks (managment was present) pulling out-of-date and discolored meat from the shelves, de-boning, grinding the meat, then repackaging it as 'fresh ground beef/chuck', effectively turning bad product into 'fresh'.
Deli/Bakery: Same story, date extention, out of date but "still looking okay" whole roasting chickens are removed and later cut up to make chicken fingers or popcorn chicken.
Grocery/Dairy/General Merchandise: Improper rotation without pulling out-of-dates on a timely basis. The store manager is responsible for ensuring that this is done, in my experience, it is done only when those below him can 'get a chance' to do so - THIS SHOULD BE DONE REGULARLY AND ROTATION SHOULD BE DONE WITH EVERY CASE - EVERY TIME! It takes extra time and that costs money, so hense the people that should care, do not.
I hope eventually the Ag. Dept. catches on to some of these things, they don't seem to heed to any of my warnings about someone possibly getting sick - or worse due to the irresponsibility of upper-level management within this grocery chain.
PR SOP demands that they claim they do all that they can, but it's one thing to say it, or print it, and a quite different thing to actually follow through.
