Paoli Diner Complaint - Bad Experience - Food & Service

PAOLI, PENNSYLVANIA -- The first experience at the Paoli Diner was most unpleasant. I ordered fish which had to be sent back 2 times and never was edible (strange flavor and gelatinous texture). The waitress, although very sweet, didn't get our orders right and never did bring the rolls and butter that was supposed to come with our dishes.

The worst thing though was that I as charged for the side dishes that came with the fish and the Manager berated me for asking why I was being charged at all.

Most high quality restaurants would be apologetic and certainly not charge a thing. In fact they might even go so far as to give you a credit for another visit. The Manager said so rudely to me "how am I supposed to make money?!" Apparently he needed that $5.30 more that he needed repeat, satisfied customers.

We'll never go back and are telling everyone we can.

Well, "high class restaurant" and diner certainly are not the same thing. Diners are normally a step or two above a fast food dump.

azspots, I disagree, some of the most dilapidated, hole-in-the wall diners out there, serve the best food money can buy, hands down.

Sounds like the $5.30 was for the side dishes. I agree with the OP, the entire meal should have been comped. Jello fish????????????????????
Posted by azspots on 2008-10-13:, no, not what I meant. I have also been to some fabulous hole in the wall diners. Regardless of how great their food was, I still wouldn't call them a "high quality restaurant". Just good eats.

gotcha was the reference to being just a step above a FF restaurant that threw me.... fast food is truly food in its grossest form, IMO.

For what it's worth, some of the best food I've ever had was in Noo Joisee diners but that don't mean you can't get a stinker once in a while..

OF, I can't believe you said Lobster Under's Pheasant and you know it. Quit trying to trick folks to see if they are paying attention. I think the OP's complaint was he was charged $5.30 for the side dishes and felt he should not be charged at all. After watching some episodes on the Food Network when the guy visits different diners all over the country I think most would be a barrel of laughs and probably have some decent food.

Dear Just Cuz,

I didn't eat it - just took one bite & it tasted weird. Thinking it was undercooked I cut into the middle & that is where it looked gummy. They brought me another (overcooked) piece, no gelatinous texture but still that flavor that wasn't like fish or any other food I've ever eaten. Bottom line, the worst part of the whole experience was the manner of treatment I received and the lack of resolution. By the way, the side dishes I was demanded to pay for were equally bad. Go figure!
