Tom Tom Complaint - Almost Worthless On The Road
SIERRA VISTA, ARIZONA -- The TomTom 720 had difficulty with simple routes that I used everyday. It offers many features but they are not all available in the U.S. Some are only available for an additional charge. I downloaded some new voices but most don’t give all the alerts, only a few that are supplied by TomTom. The only “text to speech” voices attempt to name each street but you are unable to understand what it is saying since it is a computer generated voice. The purchased features are set up for European clientèle only, there were no prices stated in us currency. This GPS claims bluetooth support for hands free calling but only for gsm phone carriers on a very limited number of handsets. Verizon, Sprint and many others do not work with this GPS.
The menu is poorly organized and overly complex. It's hard enough to find options while sitting at my desk, forget about doing it while driving. Even trying to navigate the music player while driving is difficult and dangerous. Even thought the display is large it can hardly be seen in the daytime due to low intensity. Once you set your color scheme the display switches back and forth between two different colors for some reason. The display at night is much too bright even after turning down the intensity. For some reason this GPS only has gas stations and motels/hotels that are in big cities. I’ve never been able to find either a gas station or motel while driving one of our Nation’s Interstate highways.
Now for the absolute worse thing about this GPS (same with all Tomtom’s I hear) is the mounting continues to fail holding the GPS to a clean class surface. It falls off five or six times per day startling me out of my mind. I don’t recommend purchasing this GPS.
