Gurnee Hyundai Complaint - Not Operating In Good Faith
GURNEE, ILLINOIS -- I visited Gurnee Hyundai on October 24, 2008 to look at a 2003 Mazda MPV they had listed for $7,991. While there I asked for the salesman's card so I could contact him again. As I was doing that, a sales manager walked by and said "write $4995 on the back of the card." The salesman did that and gave the card to me.
I returned on October 25, 2008 for a test drive. Prior to that I ran a CarFax report while showed a mileage discrepancy - the vehicle had 16,000 reported miles in 2004 but only 11,000 in late 2005, which raised my suspicions.
After a satisfactory test drive I called the dealer and asked the salesman if he would honor the price of $4,995 subject to an independent inspection and verification of the mileage.
Upon return the documentation was requested in writing. While waiting we left the agency to have lunch at a local restaurant, and said we would return shortly for the paperwork.
After lunch we returned only to be told someone has place down payment on the vehicle and it was no longer available.
I find it difficult to believe that this occurred so quickly in this environment. I can only conclude that the mileage was not as stated, or they had no intention of honoring their price, and would put neither in writing (which any smart consumer does when buying a used vehicle).
The integrity of this dealer is highly questionable in my mind and I will not purchase a vehicle from them ever. Gurnee Hyundai is owned by the Bob Rohrman group of dealerships.
