Kel-Mac, Inc./Pennzoil 10 Minute Oil Change Complaint - Destroyed Oil Pan Drain Plug Helicoil Threads

Review by cashpot1 on 2008-10-25
Have had my oil changed roughly every 3000 miles for 2 cars for the last 3 years at the same Pennzoil 10 Minute Oil Change store located at 1116 South Carney Drive, Saint Clair, Michigan 48079.

Today, the owner/manager brought to my attention (just prior to ringing up my bill) that the oil drain pan's helicoil insert came out when they removed the oil pan drain plug. He showed me the plug and how the helicoil material was actually embedded in the threads of the drain plug. I have since discovered that the only way this can happen is if the drain plug was overtightened when they last changed the oil.

The store owner/manager told me that this type of problem was "common" to Chrysler PT Cruisers (my car) and made no offer to pay for the damage his shop caused. Beware of this shop...will be changing my oil myself in the future. Will never, ever use this shop again! I wouldn't let these guys change the tire on a bicycle.
