Hostway - Internet Service Provider, Web Hosting Complaint - Hostway's Service, From A Long Time Customer

I have been a Hostway customer for years, 6-7 by now. During this time period, 4 or 5 times, their SSH access keeps getting hacked by automated programs. I never use SSH, but when suddenly "My pages" are missing, that is the first thing I look at, the SSH logs, sure enough someone hacked into it. In the past, they have restored the files and I changed the master passwords. About 2 weeks ago, it happened again, again, through SSH. This time, they want to charge me $99 to restore the files that were deleted and I kept thinking, "Why do I pay them for this lack of service?" And NOW I am looking for a new ISP to host my pages, which are a service to a local sports community, non profit and a way for people to hook up to enjoy the sport we love, scuba diving in S Cal. I haven't even discussed 'limitations' to their services here, but that is a whole different discussion, which is far too long for this complaint.

Hostway's prices are higher than many I have been researching, by quite a lot. In today's economy, the loss of even ONE customer should be a concern to any business. Hostway will loose more of their customers in the near future too. So you have been warned, DO NOT USE Hostway for Web Hosting.

I've been using Hostdime for several years, and never had the problems you experience. I love their customer service. Anytime I emailed them a question, I'd hear back within a couple of hours.
