Ville In Italia Complaint - Bait And Switch Policy Of Ville In Italia
ITALY -- 6 couples rented a villa in Amalfi from ville in italia. The deposit was paid 12 months in advance and paid in full 6 weeks before occupancy. 4 days before we were to occupy the villa (after we had already left the US and was in another part of Italy) we received an email stating we could not occupy the villa because it had been shut down. Ville in italia offered us only 1 option, so it was either accept the villa offered or upon meeting up with the other couples telling them we had no where to stay for a week.
Obviously we chose the former but upon our arrival we realized it was a much inferior villa and there were about 250 steep steps to negotiate from the entrance to some of the rooms. Most of us being in our 60's, we decided that day that we could not stay here as it would present a health hazard and ruin our vacation. We notified ville in italia of our decision and their advise was to write a letter when we returned home stating the reasons for our leaving the villa. (we assumed at least a partial refund would be forthcoming).
Upon our return home we sent an email listing the obvious reasons for our leaving and a response from ville in italia stated simply that they adhered to their contractual obligation of supplying us with an alternative villa and therefore would not issue a refund even though we only occupied the villa for 1 day. They even admitted in the email they knew about the problem with the original villa for months but didn't decide to notify us until 4 days before we were to occupy the villa. Costa Degli Dei in still for rent on their website and cannot be occupied. What a great company!!!!
