VanGuard Tours Complaint - Tour Manager Services Cancelled for Alaska Tour

ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA -- Our Alaska vacation was planned a year in advance with VanGuard Tours & Cruises. We selected this company soley on the basis of the Tour Manager Service that accompanied the tour. This service was promised in all correspondence including the DVD sent by the company. The Tour Manager was on call 24 hours per day. Five days prior to our departure, the travel packet arrived. The last page of the 2 inch packet was a one sentence statement stating we would NOT have a Tour Manager. Repeated phone calls produced no information or results. Holland America was to be our guide, however, Holland America for the most part did not know of our existence. We were not given contact names, nor contact phone numbers. We were given vouchers with no means to access the tours we had paid for. It was a nightmare for nearly two weeks. We had to spend a large part of each day trying to get from one place to another. Emails to the company were made, sometimes daily from the ship. We were placed on wrong buses, missed one tour, missed a city. We paid for a Tour Manager, and we were not compensated for all of the problems incurred. Repeated letters to VanGuard produced one negative response from the company. The company continues to advertise Tour Managers on all tours as well as 100% satisfaction. We adhered to the contract, VAnGuard caused many frustrations and unnecessary worries. This is not a company we would encourage anyone to use.
