Dollar Rent A Car Systems, Inc. Complaint - Renting a car at LAX
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA -- My one and only experience with Dollar was at LAX this past summer. I was less than impressed... but not outraged.
After a decently speedy paperwork process, I was told to walk out to a large garage and "take a car"... I'd never been to a place where they didn't bring it to you and do a walk-around, but whatever...it's Los Angeles.
So I walk into a garage and find my section, with maybe a dozen cars to choose from. A few Impalas and a several Dodge Chargers. All of them are absolutely FILTHY. After I found one that smelled the least like body odor and didn't have cigarette butts in the cupholder, I got opened the door to find the key in the ignition. I turned the key to see that the gas light was on. Wonderful. I wasn't familiar with LA at the time (about 8 months ago) and my right off I had to find a filling station ASAP. After waiting in line a few minutes to get out of the lot, I was checked out by someone in a kiosk who scanned my ticket and asked me a series of questions in some language that did not resemble English in the least, to all of which I answered "yes".
I had the nasty car for a week, and didn't run across any other problems. Returned it with 1/4 tank because I didn't want somebody else getting in the car with no gas.
No unexplained charges, no rude attendants (although not particularly friendly) and no major functional problems with the car.
