Cook County Assessor Office Complaint - 9.4% Increase In Proposed Valuation For 2008 In This Down Real Estate Market

Review by poorsap on 2008-11-18
ORLAND PARK, ILLINOIS -- I cannot understand how the Cook County Assessors office can increase the proposed assessed 2008 valuation of my home over the previous assessed value of 2007 by a whopping 9.4% in this awful down market of real estate. No major improvements have been done to my home that might warrant this increase. Homes are being foreclosed and those who are selling their homes are taking an awful loss of value and the Assessors office has the nerve to increase next years tax bill by my 9.4% example.

I do believe in paying my fair share but I think that the county should tighten their belt and make internal changes to become more productive rather than viewing the taxpayers as a bottomless well of funds.

We just paid over 812.00 to the public school system and they have the gall to say they need more money! 812.00! I could buy a new computer for that much money.

You can normally appeal the increase but if every other similar residence gets the same increase you're out of luck. You have to prove your house is not as good as they say.
