Spirit Airlines Complaint - Overbooked Flights
FT. LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA -- Spirit Air is the worst airline I have ever flown on. I had a paid ticket for which I had already paid for a seat assignment and for my luggage in advance. When I arrived at the airport to check my bag, they refused to check me in saying the flight was full and I did not have a seat assignment. I told the ticket counter agent that I did in fact, have a paid seat assignment and showed her my receipt for it. She said to me, "Well, you don't anymore!" I could not believe how rude these people are. I found out from another agent there that they are only allowed to send 5 passengers to the gate without seat assignments and I was the 6th, which is why they refused to check me in.
The flight was so overbooked, that I guess even though I had already paid for a seat, they chose to give it to another passenger who arrived before me. The next flight was not for another 8 hrs, but this was a business trip so I had to get to my destination. I was told it would cost me $130 to be booked on that next flight! I can't believe they have the audacity to charge a customer a change fee + fare difference when the only reason I was in this predicament was because they overbooked my flight to begin with! I asked if there were any other airlines that could get me to my destination any earlier and was first told they had no way of checking (which you know is bs) and then told by someone else that, no, there were no other airlines that flew there. I begrudgingly paid the $130 and then sat down and powered up my laptop to see what else I could find. I immediately found an American Airlines flight that would get me to my destination that afternoon, so I booked it. I went back to the Spirit counter and told them what I had found and could they refund the $130 that I had just paid literally not 15 minutes earlier. They said "No." Then one of the other agents overhearing all this, told me I probably wouldn't get on the evening flight either because it was also overbooked and sold out!!
So why the heck did they take my $130?? I know why, because they don't care anything about their customers! I hate this airline! I have tried to no avail to resolve this with their customer service dept (which is a complete joke), their on-line services, even went to their corporate office - but they refuse to see people there. Gee, I wonder why!!
