Ganz Complaint - Poorly Run Website - Webkinz.com

Webkinz.com - Complaint
Review by auntiebethie on 2008-11-24
WOODBRIDGE, ONTARIO, -- My daughter has received several Webkinz toys. Included in the price of the stuffed animal is ta code which allows children to participate in the Webkinz.com Webkinz World.

Unfortunately the website is almost impossible to enter. I have (without exaggeration) often tried twenty times in succession only to be confronted with either a Please Wait.... message or the message that "Our servers are not functioning, please try later".

The access to utilize the website is part of the cost of each animal and the company should be able to provide this service to each purchaser! I have begun to encourage my daughter to collect stuffed animals other than Webkinz pets as the company has failed to give what has been expected.

To anyone considering purchasing a Webkinz for your child, I advise looking at other animals as an alternative. Money spent on Webkinz pets is wasted!

I don't think this post will scare anyone away from buying webkinz. Kids want webkinz.

Not only that, but how do you know you don't have an internet connection problem?

That message wouldn't come up C. if it wasn't the website's issue. I have to agree here. It's not rocket science today to keep a website up and running. Here's a company that includes features accessible only from it in the purchase price of their toys. For goodness sake, go buy a a decent server and pay a web geek or two to keep it up and running.

From what I've read, the company was unprepared for the volume of traffic the site received and are working to correct it. Funny, how you read something that means nothing to you and it get's filed away till someone mentions it.

The Webkinz site goes down rather frequently for upgrade, which seem to cause more problems. Wait until Christmas and the week after. If it is like in past years, the kids get webkinz as presents and then you can't access the site for a week because no one at Ganz seems to get that they will be really busy on the biggest gift giving day of the year and their servers can't handle it. My kids used to love Webkinz, but the computer issues have really turned them off of it.

From what I read this site is pretty big time... they get millions of kids on this place monthly...

Actually, itis not an internet problem. It is the website being unable to accomodate due to enormous volume.
I contacted the Better Business Bureau in Canada (Ganz is a Canadian company) about this issue and was contacted several times directly by a representative from Ganz. She told me they were trying to fix the problem and expected to have it fixed by Christmas 2008.
It is now February and we experience the same problems during peak time. I can get onto Webkinz World easily when the kids are in school.
Here is the response I received from the BBB:
