Chase Manhattan Bank Complaint - Penalized For Paying Early
We use online banking to pay our bills. I submitted a payment to our Chase credit card two months ago. Apparently the payment got to Chase 2 days earlier than expected and Chase posted it to the statement for the prior month, making two payments for the one month. I was not aware of this and since I assumed I was current, continued paying the bill each month (before the statement came) to make sure a payment was never late. Well, to my surprise, I had a late fee assessed to my account. As I researched this, I saw that it was because they had received the payment 2 days early, they posted it to the prior months bill and nothing to the next month, which is what triggered the late fee. I assumed it would be no problem getting the fee removed since it was obvious what happened.
Well guess what?? It was not an easy thing. It took several phone calls and supervisors had to be contacted.....after several phone calls, they agreed to refund the "late fee" which I told them they need to call it the "early payment penalty fee."
They also added that should we pay them early in the future, they would not permit another refund of their late fee!!
