Dish Network Complaint - Free stuff can back fire on you!! Don't do it! Don't go with Dish Network!
ARIZONA -- In Jan 2008 I switched from DirecTV to Dish because apparently DirecTV only appreciates NEW customers and rewards them with free equipment, free installations and even portable DVD players. Screw the seven year existing customer who paid for the full package, on time no less (never once late). So I begrudgingly gave up my TV and DirecTV. Anyhow, I went with Dish because I finally upgraded to a 47" LCD HDTV. I received free installation free equipment free premium channels and a very informative installer to boot. Couldn't have been more pleased. Till the next morning.
Upon turning on my television I immediately went to the guide button, nothing, tried hitting any and all buttons on the remote and nothing. After two minutes the receiver responded to the remote commands. O. k. annoying but not detrimental to my television viewing. Now one week into my new service upon watching my favorite shows recorded on my new HD DVR I had extreme pixaling and flat out interrupted viewing. Did I mention that most of my favorites shows I have opted for recording the HD version of that channel do not record approximately 35% of the time because "SIGNAL COULD NOT BE FOUND" Being that I am in AZ I can say with out a doubt it wasn't due to bad weather and or cloud cover. I call Dish to ask why this was happening as in seven years of Direct TV NOT once did I have interrupted service even during our crazy monsoon season.
Of course the ol' "reset your receiver" routine was given and insisted that I follow through with before any other trouble shooting would be offered. After being on the phone going through the ridiculous routine obviously being read off a cheat sheet for possibly the first time for this particular CS Rep I just gave up. Asked if I would be able to cancel the contract as this was not what was promised. I believe their advertising gimmick is "The best digital service provider" I beg to differ! I was told of course you can cancel your contract! For a few hundred dollars! I'm not sure but I swear I heard "SUCKER!" at the end of that comment. Now fast forward to 12/1/08 my seventeenth complaint call later and four visits from "trained field technicians".
There would have been hundreds more if I only had the commitment and diligence to ride their @#!* each and every time I was annoyed and or disgusted with the service. It's just too much stress dealing with the automated service and then to be greeted with such incompetent ingrates is so insulting! It's their job! It's all they do! I'm not calling them up to ask them how to program my ipod, change the tire on my jeep and or how to make thanksgiving gravy without lumps!!! If the automated dill weed insist I say what department my problem lies within so that I will be put through to someone who can help service me better I EXPECT that when technical support gets on the line an hour or so later that the CS Rep would and could help me!
So, today I finally was put through to SJ6. Yes, I said SJ6. That was the only name she would give. This apparently was the only person who could help me with canceling my contract and waive the early termination fee. Silly ol' me!!!! Within three seconds she explained that my complaint about Dish networks inability to receive HD channels 100% of the time (I’m not just talking about local HD it is all HD channels)was not a valid reason to authorize a fee waiver as she only shows I started complaining about the two minute annoyance on Oct 11 and no mention of the HD reception was ever documented. (She did however accidentally state the real date of June 30, 2008 and then immediately corrected herself.) I responded with the dates on the actual work orders that were left with me from the technicians in my home four time this year.
But how convenient!!! They too neglected to put down the actual reason they were here. Just that the dish was out of alignment and they fixed the problem. Does Dish network actually send out technicians at no cost to me for the grins and giggles of it? I think not!! Do they give me a years worth of free HD service and a years worth of local channel service for free because they just felt generous that day? Well in less than 24 hours of my last complaint there will be a "Supervisor" technician arriving at my home between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and noon. I will say that in southern AZ the installers and repair technicians do show up when they say. They even call as they are leaving for your home. I have never waited more than a day or two to have a tech ent to home. The satisfactory service stops there. However, they are just contracted with Dish they don't work directly for Dish.
To sum it all up in the last 12 months I have had the following problems...
2 minute wait when turning on TV to activate the receivers ability to receive signals from remote. Have had four new remotes by the way. It's the damn receiver! Was told I have to pay for the new receiver because it must be something I'm doing! Not that the technicians turned my TV on and it did the same thing.
Intermittent days of no HD reception. But oddly a day or so later the problem fixes itself without a technician realigning my dish.
A one minute pause of a black screen upon changing channels.
Intermittent extreme pixaling on HD channels regardless of local status or not. It is all HD channels. Interrupted service for no apparent reason at all. especially not our superb Az weather conditions!
Dish network has simply given my the run around since the beginning. All I have been compensated is the HD and local channel fees. Big hoohoo so what if the service is free it still doesn't make it o. k. to be less than substandard quality service. I pay for 100% of service 100% of the time I EXPECT to have service 100% of the time! Is there no way to fight the cancellation fee? Is there no one there at Dish who really can or will waive the fee? After all no where in the contract did it say that I have to hold up my end of the contract regardless of Dish Networks inability to provide quality service or service period!
